From Chain Drive to Turbocharger

Denis Jenkinson needs no introduction and this book is one of his best efforts. In effect it is a history of Frazer Nash cars and AFN who eventually absorbed Frazer Nash and in post-War years became Porsche importer for Great Britain. The company was run by two brothers called Aldington and Jenkinson explains in detail the way in which the Aldingtons were able to take over the Frazer Nash company. They raced and rallied their cars and when BMW came out with the fabulous 328 model “Aldy” Aldington persuaded BMW to allow him to build a British version of the 328 to be called the Frazer-Nash BMW which proved a great success. Post-War Frazer Nash ran well at Le Mans in 1949 with a new model which they subsequently called the Le Mans Replica and it proved very successful with his six-cylinder Bristol engine developed from the BMW 328 base.

If the story of this remarkable enterprise is not enough Jenkinson has listed all the Frazer Nash models, their chassis numbers and original owners making it a fascinating reference book. He then goes on to how AFN ltd managed to get the Porsche franchise for the UK and how again they went racing to promote the models, notably with VIc Elford in the early Porsche 911s.

A good history with armfuls of information on cars, drivers and engineers.
