Henry A life of Henry Ford II

Elsewhere in this listing of books from my Library there is the fascinating biography of the original Henry Ford and his exploits and his son Edzel Ford leading up to Henry Ford II.
This book is equally fascinating and was written by Walter Hayes who came into the motor industry as a newspaper motoring correspondent but was a man of great management skills as he proved when he moved to Ford Motor Company UK in 1962 as Public Relations Manager and quickly progressed through the ranks to end up vice-President of Ford Motor Company in the USA.

He is best known in racing circles as the man who gambled on the 3 litre Cosworth V8 engine but before that he had moved Ford more heavily into rallying and racing to pep up sales of the Ford road car range. He saw the potential in Jackie Stewart and signed him up on a £500 a year contract which still exists to this day.
When Ford Motor Company set out to buy Ferrari Walter Hayes was at Henry Ford II’s right hand and they became very close friends. One could expect this to be something of a hagiography but in fact it is a very frank story of the life of one of the Motor Industry’s great characters.

The book is personally dedicated to Graham Gauld by Walter Hayes who was the principal guest at a private 25th anniversary dinner dedicated to Jim Clark and attended by most of Clark’s key friends from his motor racing career.
