MILLER by Griffith Borgeson

£48.00£58.00

Since I first read an article by the great American historian Griffith Borgeson in 1952 I have been fascinated by the manner in which he approached his articles and his books. His research was formidable tracing patent listings in the USA, Britain and France in order to back up a scrap of infrmation he had heard. It was not until forty two years later that I met up with him which resulted in some amusing and fascinating conversations at his house in the South of France that had been found for him by no less than Roland Bugatti, son of Ettore. He retained his enthusiasm right up until he died in 1997 with plans for a history of Hispano-Suiza. However one of his favourites as the saga of the Miller racing cars and this book was commissioned by the Smithsonian Institution. It covers Harry Miller’s career and amongst the appendices is a list of all of the US patents taken out by Miller and a list of events, drivers and chassis of Miller and Offenhauser championship winning races from 1917 , Indianapolis and car and engine speed records.

The additional photo is of the Miller-Gulf Four of 1938

Borgeson was unique and it shows in this book.
