Model Maserati 8CTF Boyle Special

£30.00£38.00

In 1938, encouraged by Adolfo Orsi in Modena who had bought the Maserati company the previous year, Ernesto Maserati produced the 8 cylinder 8CTF. The car was aimed at battling with the Mercedes Benz and Auto Union grand prix cars and it made its debut at the Tripoli Grand Prix in 1938.

Three chassis were built 3001, 3002 and 3003 and the car modeled here ( Chassis 3002) was the most successful of them all for not only was it spirited off to the USA at the beginning of WWII but, repainted as the Boyle Special gave Wilbur Shaw his first win at Indianapolis in 1939. Shaw went back to Indianapolis in 1940 and won for a second time and might have won the race yet again in 1941 but for a broken wheel, of all things.

All three 8CTF’s still exist and two of them occasionally raced but this car remains in the Indianapolis Motor Museum and is brought out for special events.

As with all Brumm models the detailing is excellent.
