Porsche High Performance Driving Hand Book

This soft cover book is a First edition published in 1994 of Vic Elford’s primer on how to improve your performance driving. However it is more than just a collection of line drawings on how you should line up a corner but Vic goes into all aspects of high performance driving from seatbelts onwards. Where this book differs from the rest is that in almost every chapter he links what that chapter is about to one of the races in which he competed in Porsches.

As a former European Rally Champion and competitor in Formula 1 grand prix racing he knows what he is talking about and when it comes to Porsches Vic has an easy style in describing exactly how, for example, a Porsche 908 race car handles on the Targa Florio or how a 917 performs at Daytona. One of Vic’s interesting claims is that he is one of the few people to have raced every model of 917 from the original ill handling one right up to the final examples.

The seller, Graham Gauld, first met Vic Elford more than sixty years ago when he was a lowly navigator in a Mini for David Seigle-Morris and the book is amusingly dedicated to him and signed by Elford.

David Hobbs writes the introduction to the book and admits his sheer respect for Elford’s race driving particularly in the wet and in all this is a thoroughly entertaining and educative book.
