Programmes Far East

Two relatively rare programmes from motor racing in the Far East. Both were from November 1994 when the seller, Graham Gauld attended the first major International Motor Race held at Zuhai in mainland China, the Mobil Lakewood International Race that was the final round of the FIA World GT Championship that year.

Zuhai, is in Southern China close to the border with Macau and earlier that year work had started on a major International Circuit on the hills outside the town. As it was nowhere near ready to hold the 1984 FIA race a street circuit was set up in Zuhai and it was on this that the final round was decided.

The race itself was won by the Porsche 911 Turbo S.LM of Larbre Competition driven by Jacques Lafitte, Jean Pierre Jarier and Bob Wolek. Interesting also to note that in the new Formula Asia series race at the same meeting the teenager Alex Yoong – later to drive for Lotus in F1 was racing.

The other programme is from the race a week or so later at Macau where Paul Stewart racing fielded the young Dario Franchitti and Jan Magnussen in their Dallaras, RC Motorsport had Giancaro Fisichella and Mild Seven Racing had Ralf Schumacher whose brother Michael had been a previous winner of the Macau F3 GP.

Two rare ones for programme collectors.
