Speed Magazine

By 1935 the British Racing Drivers Club had decided to go ahead and produce their own Club magazine.

It was a magazine designed and produced as an equal to the best sports magazines and Earl Howe, the President of the Club wrote to the members in the inaugural edition in June 1935 : “ If, as I confidentially believe, SPEED proves to be popular, we of the British Racing Drivers Club will have achieved one more of our objects, namely, with the promotion of a still wider appreciation of the sport and all that it means to industry directly and indirectly”.

It was a direct challenge to Motor Sport, was edited by Alan Hess.and was much more light-hearted and chatty.

This collection starts from the very first issue as follows:

June 1935 – December 1935 ( 6 issues)

January 1936 – April – 1939 Inclusive ( 36 issues)

January 1939 -April 1939 (4)

The issues are loose but kept in two A4 File boxes.

Each weighs 4.5 kilos and will be sent separately.
