The Exciting World of Jackie Stewart

£30.00£35.00

This is a small hardback book that was published by Collins in 1974.

At the time Jackie, along with a number of leading Scottish Businessmen and personalities such as Sean Connery had formed The Scottish Educational Trust to provide funds to help young people in education.

Essentially what happened was Jackie went round a number of his friends and journalists and persuaded them to write a chapter for the book.

None of the contributors received payment and the entire profit from the sale of the book went to the charity. It is something of a rarity. It contains a lot of information, photographs and anecdotes. For example, in his Foreword, Sean Connery admits he is no motor racing fanatic and yet travelling around Silverstone with Jackie in a Ford Capri was “….quite the most frightening experience in my life”.

Amongst the writers are Sunday Times journalist Hunter Davies, Graham Gauld, Stewart biographer Eric Dymock, sportswriter Hugh McIlvanney, Stuart Turner, Ford’s director of motorsport at the time, and even the great novelist Alistair MacLean. It is notable that all the writers bar Turner are Scottish born. Lots of interesting and personal photographs and odd-ball for your Jackie Stewart collection.
