Time Magazine Jim Clark

£60.00£65.00

This issue of the American weekly news magazine TIME was rare in that it was only the second time in the history of the magazine that a racing driver became the coveted cover story. The first was American Briggs Cunningham and the second was Jim Clark.

There is an interestings story behind the publication of the Jim Clark story as told to me by Jim Clark. The plan had been to publish the Jim Clark cover story two years before, in 1963 immediately after Jim Clark won his first Formula 1 World Championship and became the youngest driver so to do. However the assasination of John F Kennedy in October 1963 obviously became the major story and the Jim Clark story was filed away for possible future reference.
Two years later when Jim Clark won the Indianapolis 500 the story was dug up again and updated with the Indianapolis win and published in July so it was published before Jim Clark won his second Formula 1 World Championship.
I am sorry to lose this copy of the magazine as copies are difficult to find but it is of interesting historic value
