Published in 1956 this hard cover book was written by the noted historian of the period, L.T.C. Rolt this book features hundreds of photographs and illustrations of motoring from the earliest days to the early 1950s as an excellent primer to someone who would like a history of the development of the motor car particularly in Britain.
It is also quirky with one particular page of typical published small advertisements from the very early days such as the one that reads “…..Valve lifter for De Dion Motors, does away with compression tap, immediate silence passing horses, grand for coasting, reduces labour in pedalling by one-shaft, 25 shilling complete” Many photographs of motor racing many of them unfamiliar.
