This book was published 33 years ago by Stanley Paul publishing on behalf of Pirelli. It came from an idea Pirelli’s UK public relations manager, Derek Forsyth and Robert Newman who had moved to Milan to join Pirelli’s public relations department. The idea was to show the history of Pirelli in motor sport through the years in pictures but with a story line and extended captions by the late L.J.K.Setright. By using Pirelli’s remarkable photo library this is one of those sleeping gems that did not sell well at the time due to the fact that its original price of £25 was a bit rich at the time. It is also in landscape format 40 cms x 26 cms.
Split into separate chapters it not only contains racing photographs but photographs of contemporary posters and artifacts. Unlike other similar books it is Setright’s informative captions to the photos that make it like a historical picture book of racing from the very beginnings of racing to the rise of Ayrton Senna.
